Text-to-Speech (TTS) lets LMSA read AI responses aloud so you can listen instead of read. It uses Android’s built-in TTS engine, which means it works offline with no external service involved. TTS is useful for accessibility, multitasking while the screen is out of reach, or simply because you prefer listening to reading.

Using TTS

Tap the speaker icon on any AI message bubble to start playback. LMSA reads the message content aloud using your selected voice.

Playback controls

While a message is playing, you have three controls available:
ControlAction
PlayStart or resume playback
PausePause at the current position
StopStop playback and reset to the beginning

Choosing a voice

LMSA uses the voices installed on your Android device.
1

Open Settings

Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
2

Select a TTS voice

Scroll to the Text-to-Speech section and tap Voice. A list of available system voices appears. Tap any voice to preview it and set it as your default.
Android supports additional language packs that add more voices and languages. To install them, go to your device’s Settings → Accessibility → Text-to-Speech output and tap Install voice data next to your preferred TTS engine. The new voices appear in LMSA’s voice selector after installation.

Hands-free use

TTS is well suited for situations where you cannot look at the screen — commuting, cooking, exercising, or any other activity where you want AI interaction without holding your phone. Start a message, tap the speaker icon on the response, and listen.
TTS reads the plain text content of a response. Markdown formatting, code blocks, and LaTeX expressions are read as their underlying text rather than rendered visually, which may affect how technical responses sound when spoken aloud.
